Obituary for D'JUAN MARCEL JEMISON-HOPKINS
Djuan started life’s journey Octorber 14th, 1976, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma born to Willie Hopkins and Regina Renee Jemison. Upon arrival his mom affectionately called him (Punkin), a name he only allowed her, his dad and other close kin to use. Anyone who knew Djuan found him to be a vibrant, ambitious young man with a vision to leave the world better than he found it. At the age of three years he and mom moved to Moss Point Mississippi where he’d attend grade school till 12 years old. They then migrated to Columbus, Ohio with the addition of his younger brother Cornelius and sister Kenya. While continuing his schooling in Columbus public schools he enjoyed playing football and found himself to be inclined to music. Nearing his upper classman years at Marion Franklin High School, like so many young men today, he dreamed of becoming the next great Rap star. He did write songs and set lyrics to beats; but God had another plan in mind. Understanding the value of a good education, he acquired his GED and went on to become an Entrepreneur selling various designer products. Djuan was always extravagant in personality. He was a connoisseur of food, although he didn’t like to admit it. He loved to dress, wearing the latest fashion and jewelry. He once showed up at the church picnic proclaiming -“I’m too clean to clean up!” In the year 2010 he received The Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and was determined to serve the Lord with even more vigor than he had did his own thing in the world. He had been taught the gospel at The Temple of Faith CLG under Bishop R. J Hairston Sr. and now served as drummer and media minister for Calhoun Memorial Temple COGFB, pastored by his step Dad Elder M.R Nesbitt Sr. Djuan was a vlogger, he vlogged the Sunday sermons on his YouTube channel Blak Pope.
Continuing his education, he received an Associate Degree from Ohio Christian University. It should be noted that he pressed his way through illness to keep climbing toward his goal. His dream was to become a Christian Film Maker and inspire souls to be saved by that medium. He wanted to draw young people from the street life into the church to save them from destructive lifestyles. Although his dream was not fulfilled in his eyes, on this side of life; the impact, brief though it was, will still inspire souls to turn to The Lord. . .
God may have allowed him to come home with some lessons unsaid; but he has graduated to that place where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary be at rest. His Church and family will greatly miss him.
The heart of Djuan Marcel Jemison Hopkins will never be forgotten. And his testimony will still bear fruit. . .
He was preceded in death by cousin Cedric Robinson and Grandmother Nonnie McDonald, Granddad Jean Jemison; uncles Percy and Robert, grandparents Susie and Deallyion Hopkins Sr., and Little Chris Powell.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving Mother Regina and stepdad Michael Nesbitt Sr., Dad Willie (Carolyn) Hopkins, brother Cornelius (Jacqueline) Nettles, sister Kenya Nettles, stepsister and brothers Olympia, Marlon and Daryl (Stacy) Mitchell, Michael (Shalen), Anthony (Alesia), Tequoia and Malcolm Nesbitt; Grand Dad Raymond McDonald; aunts Lywanda Laster, Thelra Robinson, Mona McDonald, Sonya McDonald, Angela (Jeb) Dunn, Elnora Boykins, Annie (Chris) Powell, Bobbie Linson; uncles Deallyion Jr.(aka) Leroy Hopkins, Gene Hopkins, Carl Hopkins and Link Hopkins; niece Samya Brady, Neahmya Rahmaan and great niece Alana Marshall; a host of cousins, friends and a very dear friend ~ Mrs. Constance Adams.
